I grew up in New Jersey and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Kean College in Union. I taught elementary school in Woodbridge Township after which I received a master’s degree in library science from Rutgers University in New Brunswick.

I was reference librarian for Union College in Union, N.J., then accepted the directorship of a small public library in Passaic Township, a suburban community of about 8,000 people near Berkeley Heights.

After relocating to Phoenix, Arizona, I became the acquisitions librarian for the Research Library at the State Capitol. I helped select legal, reference and historical materials for the library collections.

Since the late 1980s I’ve been freelancing as a magazine writer. I've written more than 600 profiles, features and essays for national venues . Some of these publications are displayed on this page. For further information, please see my  resume
